Essential Guide on How to Link Aadhaar Card to PAN Card Online

You must have heard the news to link your Aadhaar Card to PAN Card to receive many Government benefits such as subsidies and to keep both documents valid and more.

Time and again, the time to link your Aadhaar Card to PAN Card has been extended by the Government to help more people utilize the benefits.

If you have a PAN Card as well as an Aadhaar Card and yet to link each, then you should get it done soon. The last date to get it done has been extended until 31st March 2020.

Here is a post that will showcase various steps to help you link your Aadhaar Card to PAN Card. Read on!

Step 1 – Linking via e-Filing Income Tax Website without login

  • Browse the website of e-Filing income tax and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ option available on the left-hand panel under quick links.

  • Feed the required details like PAN number, Aadhaar number and exact name in the Aadhaar Card, along with the shown Captcha Code. Select the checkbox if you have only Year of Birth in Aadhaar. Now click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ button.

  • That’s it – it will be successfully done if DOB and gender matches in both documents or else the linking will fail.

Step 2 – Linking via e-Filing Income Tax Website with login

  • Visit the site of income tax e-Filing and get yourself registered.

  • If you are a member, login to the site using your ID, which is your PAN number, password, Date of Birth and Captcha Code.

  • A window will pop up offering to link PAN with Aadhaar – if you see no popping, you can go to ‘profile setting’ and select the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button.

  • Details such as name, gender, DOB will now appear, and you will now need to add the needed information comprising exact name in Aadhaar card, Captcha Code and exact name in the Aadhaar.

  • That’s it – the linking will be successful and fail as discussed above in the first step.

Step 3 – Linking via SMS (Text Message)

The Income Tax Department has now launched a new facility to help you link your Aadhaar Card with PAN Card via SMS or the Text Message. Have a look at what you will need to do:

Type UIDPAN <Space><Aadhaar number><Space><PAN number> and send it either to 567678 or 56161

Step 4 – Linking Aadhaar Card with PAN Card manually

The Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT) is also offering a manual method that you can use to Aadhaar Card with PAN Card.

If you are unable to get it done using the discussed steps due to any mismatch of data, then even individuals can use this method.

You will need to visit Service Centres of UTIISL, PAN or NSDL to get it done using this manual technique.

At any of these centres that you visit, you will be asked to fill a form known as Annexure 1, other than bringing the copies of the Aadhaar Card and PAN Card.

Nonetheless, you also need to note that this service is not free of cost as other services above-discussed. You will need to pay the prescribed charges. The charges will be levied if you need correction in either your PAN Card or Aadhaar Card.

The charge for correction in your Aadhaar Card is Rs.25 and Rs.110 for PAN Card’s correction.

However, in case if it is found that there are a higher number of mismatches in data of both Aadhaar and PAN, then you will need to go through biometric authentication.

After the changes are made, then you will now be able to link your Aadhaar Card with PAN Card with any of the discussed steps easily. In Case you don’t have a PAN Card then you can apply PAN Card online because It becomes compulsory to have a PAN Card for any kind of transaction.
