For most laptop models, knowing the model is sufficient for ordering the correct part. In some cases, however, laptop manufacturers offer models with higher resolutions and screen sizes that may vary – such as the Dell Latitude E5540 and most if not all of HP’s CTO (Custom-To-Order) laptops.

For some 10.1′′ and 11.6′′ netbooks, you might need to confirm where the connector is (on some 15.6′′ and 17.3′′ HP laptops) and where the mounting tabs are positioned.

Often times, we have heard success stories when we have helped customers upgrade the screen resolution by simply swapping screens; however, in order to upgrade LCD screen resolution successfully, you will want a higher capacity cable (a dual-channel rather than a single-channel cable; not relevant to the number of pins in the cable); and to make sure the video card is capable of handling the higher resolution. Although we do not recommend it, anyone who decides to try the installation at their own discretion and risk does so at their own risk.
